As well as working to save natural ecosystems on earth, GEE BioTech is working to make ecosystems on space stations sustainable. We are designing, building, and testing microbial bioreactors as factories in space.

Microbes produce a wide variety of biochemicals that can be extracted, purified, and made into materials that are recycleable and sustainable. Microbes can also benefit life support systems in space. For example, algal cultures can assimilate high carbon dioxide levels and waste nitrogen (urine), generated by astronauts, driving cell photosynthesis while producing oxygen essential for life.

This creates a closed loop system for life support while also producing components manufactured in space from the biochemical factories.
